The Map Room in one of Chicago's more trendy neighborhoods - Bucktown - north and west of downtown Chicago. It isn't a huge place, but the ambiance is cozy and it's a very friendly place to go to.
It's situated in a corner building that has a nice bar in the place. Behind the bar are rows and rows of the current bottled beers they're carrying - when I was in there the first time there had to be over 150 different types of bottled beer. And they had over 25 beers on tap, too.
Of course, they had collages of maps on the wall. There are shelves and bookcases full of maps, travel books and National Geographics. The Map Room has a tin roof ceiling and a little stage for live music on the weekends. Every once in a while, they'll have an International night where they have a restaurant bring food in and they feature food and beer from that given country.
The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They offer information sheets on the beer that you are drinking or on any beer that you ask about.
I like the Map Room. I wish I had a neighborhood bar close to my house like that one. It's a great place to get a beer.
