Located in downtown Milwaukee, next to the US Cellular Arena, up from the Midwest Airlines Convention Center and down the street from the Bradley Center, Major Goolsby's is probably more of a sports bar that happens to make good burgers than a burger place that is a sports bar.
The walls are a museum of Milwaukee sports history and it's always fun to look around the place. They have tons of TV's to watch games and lots of great beers to choose from.
But the draw for me to Goolsby's is their burgers. 1/3 pound char-broiled burgers cooked over an open flame pit. There's really not much to 'em - they don't have a load of condiments to put on (mustard is in packet rather than in bottles). But, oh, man! Are they good!
We first had a Major Goolsby burger at Summerfest, the annual music festival held on the Milwaukee lake shore, a few years ago. The burgers at Summerfest are as good as the ones they make downtown. And after a full day of drinking beer, they're great to pick up on the way out of the grounds for the ride home.
