I first went into Sal's Beverage World on Lake St. in Addison, IL about two years ago just looking for a six pack of beer to take back to my hotel room after a long day calling on dealers in Chicago. I was pleasantly surprised.
Sal's has a great selection of beer - domestic national and regional brewerys, as well as a number of foreign beers, including a large selection of Mexican beers. One of the keys for me - they have Special Export in bottles, which has become hard to find outside of Chicago or Milwaukee. And their prices are good, too.
But they also have a good selection of wines, both domestic and foriegn, to choose from, as well. And their prices I think are very reasonable.
Sal's has more of a warehouse-type feel to it, it's definitely not as big as Sam's Wine and Liquor, but they have an impressive selection of beers and wine.
They aren't as well known as some of the other liquor stores in Chicago, but they are more than competitive on price.
