For those of you who have been to Circus Circus in Las Vegas, you're probably thinking, "A good steak house? At Circus Circus?"
Granted, Circus Circus is not the Bellagio, the Venetian or Paris. It's not even the Riviera or the Stardust. But they do boast a world class restaurant in The Steak House.
The Steak House is kind of hard to find in Circus Circus - it's toward the back past the wedding chapel on the way out toward the back parking lot. It's this oasis of culinary delight among a teeming cesspool of degenerate gamblers.
I've been to The Steak House on many occasions. The first time was the famous (or infamous) introduction to Atomic Horseradish. Each time I've been back, I've taken someone who has never been in the place before and the food was excellent each time.
I think Circus Circus is a great value, too. The last time I was in was in 2001 and I took four other colleagues there for dinner. The bill, with a bottle of wine and tip, was around $250. I didn't think that was bad for how great a meal it was.
At The Steak House, I swear - you get three sizes of meat: "Slab o' Meat", "Hunk o' Meat" and "Shitload o' Meat." The filet is the biggest - and most tender - filet I've ever had.
They have a fine wine list at very reasonable prices and the waiters are all very knowledgeable on the various types of wine they serve.
If you're ever in Las Vegas, do yourself a favor and go to this place. It's sort of dressy, reservations are probably required (I tried to get in one night late but they wouldn't let me in without a reservation), and enjoy.
