Longtime favorites in the Quad Cities, I've worked a number of events with The Ellis Kell Band over the years. Ellis is the director of events for the River Music Experience and a fine guitar player, singer and songwriter.
Ellis started his band in 1989 and has had the same line up of John Burchette on bass, Rick Stoneking on keyboards, and Terry Hanson on drums for about the last ten years. And the band added harp player, "Detroit" Larry Davison a few years back and they've been going strong ever since.
Ellis has released two CD's - "Down to the Levee" and "Ellis Kell Band and Friends - 2000". The band has won numerous local "Best of" and "People's Choice" awards and has been featured on the nationally syndicated radio shows "The House of Blues Radio Hour" and "The Red Rooster Lounge".
Ellis also writes a music column for the Rock Island Argus and Dispatch called "True Blue". He has a good grasp of the local music scene - what there is of it - and it's pretty informative and educational, as well.
The band is one of those bands who seems to just get better everytime I see them play. They're opening for B.B. King next Friday night and I'm sure they'll do a great job.
