Air travel is such a pain in the ass these days. The continual "hurry up and wait" mentality that permeates the industry is getting tiresome. Then you add in the over-exuberance of the TSA and it just makes it a brutal chore to fly any more.
I stood in line at the American Airlines desk today for 45 minutes - 20 minutes of which was watching a young family of five (mom, dad, three kids under the age of five) trying to get checked in. There's obviously some rules about what can and can't be done with kids under the age of five as two of the kids had to have this lanyard and packet placed around their neck with their ticket information on them at all times.
The problem was that there was only one agent at the check in desk. One person! And he had to check in people who were both going to Dallas and to Chicago. It was maddening. Finally, a lady showed up and motioned for me to come over to her. I go up to her and she abruptly said, "Oh, wait a minute." And she disappeared into the backroom. And she never came back out. Another guy came out to help and I'm standing there with my thumb up my ass for 10 minutes - the lady never came back out.
Finally, I said, "Hey, I've been standing here for 10 minutes."
The second guy who came out said, "She'll be back."
I said, "Well, obviously she isn't coming back or she would have been here by now."
And he said, "Well, that's just Carol."
Like I'm supposed to go, "Oh, of course. Carol. I should have known she'd leave me standing here."
Finally, I got the guy to help me, and once again, he said, "Well, that's just how Carol is."
I said, "Does Carol's supervisor know that's the way she is?"
He said, "Carol is the supervisor."
And people wonder why airlines are losing money right and left.
Flights are late, the give-a-shit factor among some of these airline employees is just maddening. I'm sitting in DFW right now waiting for a flight to Las Vegas that has been delayed, considering the first flight I was supposed to be on they overbooked and put me on this flight.
And people wonder why I like to drive every where these days...
