I have to stay at Marriott properties a minimum of 15 nights annually to keep my "Silver Elite" membership with them. It takes 50 nights to reach the gold level, but I have so many Hilton Honors points racked up over the years that I'm almost indentured to stay at Hilton properties for the majority of my nights out. However, when I stay at Marriott properties, I'm finding myself at the Spring Hill Suites more than any other property.
Spring Hill Suites are wonderful for the business traveler. The rooms are either one or two room suites with a little living room area, a microwave, refridgerator and a wet bar. Hi-speed wireless internet is provided free of charge at most Spring Hill Suites I've stayed at. They have a good breakfast in the morning. The pool and exercise areas are nice and clean. And the staffs at each one I've stayed at have treated me very well. But the thing that keeps me coming back are the fact the beds are so damn comfortable at Spring Hill Suites.
If I want to stay at a Marriott property in Chicago, more often than not I'm at the Spring Hill Suites in Elmhurst (see map). It's sort of centrally located for me - just off of I-290 at Lake Street. It's easy on and off the freeway to get into the city or for quick access to the west, northwest and north suburbs.
The price of the rooms aren't bad - about $100 a night, which, in the Chicagoland area, is starting to be a good bargain. Especially for the creature comforts and the way they take care of business travelers at the Spring Hill Suites in Elmhurst.
There are a number of good restaurants in the area. You can go east on Lake St. and hit York Rd. which will take you to a number of fine restaurants in downtown Elmhurst (you can get there quicker if you know how to navigate the residential streets of Elmhurst); or you can go west on Lake St. and there are a number of new and established good restaurants in Addison.
I like getting a room on a high floor there - about the only place I do like to get a room that isn't on the main floor - with an easterly view, mainly so I can see the Chicago skyline off in the distance on a clear day or night.
You're also in the approach flight path of O'Hare International runway 5 at the hotel and you can look out the window at the planes gliding toward touchdown. I've never heard any jet noise when I'm in the room, the windows are pretty thick and the walls are very solid. It's a quiet place and I always get a restful sleep when I stay there. The bed has a lot to do with it.
Need a place to stay in the Chicago area that won't cost you an arm and a leg, and is easily accessible by car? I highly recommend the Spring Hill Suites in Elmhurst.
