Even though it's not centrally located to any of my dealers or stops in the St. Louis area, one of my favorite places to stay there is the Hampton Inn at the Arch.
Located downtown at the corner of 4th and Washington (see map), The Hampton Inn at the Arch is close to Laclede's Landing - the restaurant/nightspot area in St. Louis - and the Edward Jones Dome. The hotel is walking distance to both the Gateway Arch and to the new Busch Stadium. There's also a MetroLink stop close by that can get you to the Savvis Center, Union Station, The Pageant and out to the airport.
The thing I like about The Hampton Inn at the Arch is that for a downtown hotel, it's relatively cheap. I don't think I've spent more than $100 bucks a night in the place. Parking is free in the garage attached to the hotel. You'll need your room card to get in and out of the facility, however.
Opt for one of the upper floor rooms, especially with a southern view so you can see the Gateway Arch stand majestically along the riverfront. I got a "King Study" room the last time I was there and those rooms are only available on the 5th floor, so I had a wonderful view of the wall of the parking garage.
The rooms are not huge, but they're comfortable. The beds are firm and the decor is nice. It sort of has an "old hotel" feel to the place, but it's definitely not tired.
They have a nice sized lobby, a big breakfast area in the lower level of the building, and a very nice business center that has all the amenities of a home office. If you want to just "veg out" in your room, the hotel has full cable in each of their rooms including HBO. This is something that a lot of Hampton's are getting away from, unfortunately.
If there is one bitch I have about the hotel, it's their elevators. They're too slow. They have three banks and I waited almost three minutes for one to show up the last time I was there. And they were all operational, at that.
There are a number of good restaurants close to the hotel, not only around Laclede's Landing, but throughout the downtown area, as well.
I highly recommend the Hampton Inn at the Arch when you go to St. Louis.
