Merry Christmas from Chicago! Actually, we've been here for the past couple three nights with our son, Eric, just hanging out, seeing the sights and eating good meals. We're going to be home tonight.
The weather here hasn't been too great - not as nice as the last couple of years we've been in here for Christmas. It was actually nice the first evening with temperatures in the upper 40's. But that night, a strong cold front accompanying a winter storm came through the Chicago area knocking temperatures down some 35 degrees in the space of 4 hours. It was cold and blustery the last couple of days. It wasn't too fun walking around like it was in the past.
In the meantime, there's been this phenomenon known as "Elf Yourself" which is a web site that allows you to take head shot pictures of people and upload them onto the bodies of between 1 and 4 dancing elves. Here's an example of what it looks like, although I'm sure everyone has gotten at least one of these stupid things by now. These elves will then dance - with the picture of the person's face you uploaded - to the tune of "Jingle Bells". It's actually rather ingenious.
The first time I got one, I thought it was kind of cute. Then I got over a dozen of them from a number of different friends in a two week period before Christmas. It's gotten to the point for me that after the first two I was like, "OK, that was neat." Then it was "Jesus, everyone is doing this," when I got the next six. Finally, after getting one from a friend about two weeks ago, I said to Cindy, "I am so SICK of getting these frigging dancing elves! I wish someone would hack into that web site and shut it down!"
Well, about ten days ago, my ex-sister-in-law, Becky - who I thought still loved me - sent me a Dancing Elf greeting. Only it was with MY HEAD ON THE FRIGGING ELF!!! Oh, I was so pissed. I was sure Cindy was behind this, probably telling Becky to make one up with my head on the elf. Man, I was just beside myself with the horror and shame of seeing it on my computer.
OK, if you want to see the stupid elf with my head on it doing the stupid dance, click here. All I know is that I now have this major phobia of elves. I'm scarred forever. And as I don't do Christmas very well in the first place, I'm sure I'll have to seek professional help over this.
I thought your picture on the elf's body is cute...in a homoerotic sort of way.
What is your isssue with Xmas?

I guess I've haven't reached the happy emotional level I used to have as a child when Christmas comes around. It's not that I hate Christmas, I just think it's overrated. That's why Cindy calls me "The Grinch".
