Romano's has closed (I believe late 2018).

I grew up on the south side of Des Plaines, and the two best Italian restraints near us were Caesars (now a Chinese Restrauant near River Road) and Romano's, both on Oakton. Caesars had great Italian beefs, and Romano's the best pizza. Started eating at both in the late 50's.

To this day, I still think Romano's was the gold standard of Chicago pizza - the thin crispy crust made the pizza. I'm not against the deep dish pizza, but it's more of a tourist novelty.

Sorry to see the place close...
