Fat Alberts in Gridley, IL (see map) is a somewhat famous place in a small town in central Illinois about 20 miles north of Bloomington/Normal.
I met my buddy, Jim Kellogg, over there one day for one of their specialty burgers. It's a double burger with one patty ground beef and the other patty ground pork. Other than the usual condiments, they top it off with a special sauce that is a secret (the guy who cooked the burger said that he'd have to kill me if he told me).
I liked the taste, but something about the burger didn't like me. I didn't feel so hot after eating one and didn't feel good for a day or two afterwards. Kellogg reported back to me that he felt "just fine" after eating there. Who knows? Maybe I picked up a bug or something.
The beer is cold, fried mushrooms were good. Neat place. Worth the drive.
